The 8 Laws of Inner-Peace

Nurturing the zen within you

Lately, people have been telling me I seem very “zen”. I am giving the vibe that I am at peace.

This made me happy because I have been working on nurturing peace within me for some time now.

It is still a work in progress, as life is, but I do believe I have found specific things that have helped me get the level of peace I have today.

These “things” are laws I live by.

I believe if you incorporate these into your life as I have done, you will find some inner peace as well.

Keep reading if that intrigues you.

1. The Law of “Enough”

It’s easy to constantly feel as if you don’t have enough. This is what happens when you fall into the comparison trap.

You see others with nicer cars, bigger houses, and travelling more.

This can be found all over social media, on your TV, and in any store you walk into.

Businesses want you to feel this way because it makes you spend more money.

The truth is, you have everything you need, and you always have.

Peace doesn’t come once you acquire more. That game is endless.

It comes once you want less.

2. The Law of Self-Compassion

The most competitive people, the ones who set out to achieve more, and the ones who had parents who were hard on them, have a tendency to be too hard on themselves.

This kind of mentality can push you to achieve great things.

Kobe Bryant once said “the expectations I placed on myself were higher than what anyone expected from me.”

He was constantly tough on himself and that pushed him to work harder than anyone else. Through this, he achieved greatness.

The problem with this, though, is it takes a toll on you mentally.

If the goal is inner-peace, you need to have self-compassion. You need to be understanding and loving to yourself.

You’re only human, and a pretty awesome one at that.

Kobe’s way is not for everyone.

3. The Law of Acceptance

At the end of the day, the only thing you can control is yourself. And even then, it feels like you can only control yourself so much.

You need to accept reality as it is.

You don’t need to be happy with it. You can do what you can to influence outcomes, but you will never have full control over them.

Acceptance means more.

Life always has dualities.

What goes up, must come down. With light, comes darkness. With happiness, comes sadness.

Being caught off guard when one happens will only lead you to losing your peace.

Accepting that both are unavoidable, will give you freedom… and freedom gives you peace.

4. The Law of Stillness

True peace exists inside stillness. Lucky for you, stillness can be found within you at any time.

You can slow down, close your eyes, and breathe.

In that moment, the only thing that exists is you.

You can focus on being completely still. The world outside no longer matters.

This stillness can be found anywhere, anytime.

Remember that next time you are losing it.

5. The Law of Accountability

One would think that taking accountability for everything would drive you crazy, but the truth is, it ends up having the opposite effect.

Taking accountability actually gives you more sense of control and certainty.

You figure out where you could have done better and then moving forward, you can do better.

Over time, as you make adjustments, results start to play more in your favor.

You’ll never have full control or certainty, but by taking accountability, you can gain more than you would otherwise.

This can bring you more peace.

6. The Law of Presence

Peace cannot exist outside of this moment. If your mind is floating to the future or is lost in the past, you will not be at peace.

This is the easiest way to become fearful, anxious, or regretful.

By bringing yourself to the present moment, all that you have is right here. This brings you back to that feeling of enough.

In the presence you have peace.

Learning how to bring yourself to this moment, how to only exist in the now, is one of the greatest things you can do for yourself.

7. The Law of Reality

What is really going on here? It’s far too easy to get lost in the plethora of information bombarding you everyday to have a clue.

While some things may interest you to learn more about, other things will just drive you crazy.

Let your curiosity guide you and focus on understanding the reality in those realms.

The law of reality is all about focusing on what is really going on and the things you understand, or care to understand.

It’s about bringing yourself back to what is actually happening instead of the false information that is being thrown at you to try to control you.

Focus on reality to find peace.

8. The Law of Reflection

While staying in the present moment brings you peace, sometimes reflecting on what has happened can, too.

This can be done through journaling or meditations quite nicely.

You can reflect on loving moments with friends and family. You can reflect on past accomplishments, peaceful moments, or anything else that makes you feel at peace.

When your mind is spinning, it likes to remind you of all the bad times. It’s easy to get lost in doom loops fueled by negative thoughts.

In those moments, everything feels awful.

A good reflection period will remind you that life actually has worked out in your favor pretty nicely.

Look at where you are now. Look at the people you’re surrounded by. Look at the potential your life has set you up with.

To wrap it up

These laws will not help you unless you truly let go and dive into the experience that is life.

It’s easy to look at these and say that it’s just more of the same nonsense.

In reality, applying these laws over a period of time, produces results.

Want to find peace? Try it out for a month and let me know how it goes.
