Do These 10 Things Over The Next 10 Days to Increase Your Happiness
One mission per day to put a smile on your face
Happiness is an endless journey, not a destination.
It would be incredible if one day you reached a place where you were happy all the time, but that won’t happen.
Instead, focus on doing little things each day that make you happy.
It may take some effort at first. But over time, doing little things like these will become second nature.
Once that happens, happiness will come to you more easily than ever.
You’ve been assigned 1 task per day for 10 days.
Follow the regime. See what happens.
Day 1: Message 3 friends (or family members) and ask them what you’re good at
You’ll be surprised by the results you get from this.
What you think you’re good at is often quite different from what other people notice.
Don’t waste your messages on those who have predictable results. Chances are, your parents have been telling you their thoughts on this for years.
Instead, text the friends who you know will be honest with you and take this seriously.
Day 2: Go for a walk in nature without headphones and without using your phone
Nature is healing. But you won’t heal if you are busy listening to a podcast or music.
You need to embrace the nature around you.
Hear the birds and the river. Smell the flowers and the fresh air.
Take deep breaths and enjoy.
Day 3: Pick the task that you’ve been avoiding the most, and get it done
This task has been lurking in the back of your mind, causing you way too much unnecessary stress.
I know, this task really does suck. That’s exactly why you need to rip off the band-aid and get it done.
You’ll feel relief after. I promise.
Day 4: Text 5 people telling them why you are grateful to have them in your life
You really should be doing this every week. But it can be hard if you’ve never done it.
If you’ve ever received a text like this, you’ll understand the value.
Opening up a message of gratitude makes your entire day better. Sending that message also has the same power.
Try it out.
Be truthful. Be love.
Day 5: Go to the gym and work out until you are fully exhausted
There are many obvious benefits to working out. Those workouts where you leave completely exhausted hit different.
I’m talking about those Muay Thai classes where you hit the bag at the end of class until you can’t anymore.
Or those days where you decide to lift till failure for basically every exercise.
Better yet, do some sprints until you can’t anymore.
You’ll feel accomplished and happy after.
Day 6: Take the time to clean and organize your space
“Clean up your room before you try to save the world”.
There is a simple meaning behind this.
You’re going to have a hard time helping others' lives when yours is a mess.
The space you work in, or live in, is a direct reflection of you. If it’s a mess, your mind will feel like a mess.
And so, cleaning this space and organizing it to your liking will help put your mind at ease.
Day 7: Forgive yourself for your mistakes of the past
We’ve all made mistakes. There is no way around that. It’s time you forgive yourself for the mistakes you’ve made.
This will be one of the biggest weights you’ve ever lifted off your shoulders.
I have an exercise you can do to help with this.
You simply have to write everything down that you hold against yourself, read this list out loud, and then say you forgive yourself.
Try it and don’t be afraid to cry if you have to.
Day 8: Tell 1 person you love them
We often forget to tell those whom we love just how much they mean to us. This is the message that, if you choose, can go to your parents.
Email them, write a letter, or even do it in person.
Tell them you love them, and make sure you mean it when you say it.
Remember, tonality can completely change how messages are received.
Day 9: Blast your favourite music and have a dance party
Don’t be afraid to dance by yourself. Put the music on loud, pick your favourite songs, and let it all out.
Dancing can help you feel more grounded while allowing yourself to release emotions you may be holding in.
You’ll love letting go.
Day 10: Order yourself your favourite meal
You’ve earned it! You’ve earned your favourite delicious meal.
Do something different while you eat it this time, though.
Put your phone away and don’t put on music or the TV. Just let it be yourself and the food.
Each bite you take, close your eyes and savour it. Let the flavours treat your system to some delicious dopamine.
Be present with your food.
Closing thoughts
As you go through these different tasks, you’ll likely start to think of different ways you can bring some happiness to your day.
Try them out. See what works.
Life is all about experimenting to find what works best for you.
