Use This Trick to Add A Little Happiness to Your Day
Where there is a will, there is a way
No matter how bad your day has been, at one point, something good happened that made you crack a smile, laugh, or feel a bit of happiness.
If only you could feel like that all day…
I get it, those down days tend to progressively get worse. The more bad things that happen, the more you notice the bad things.
I have a solution for you.
You need to do everything you can to shift your mindset and find any reason to be in a good mood.
Let me tell you how!
There is always a reason
A few days ago, the awfulness kept compounding. Everything I was working on got backed up in one way or another.
To add to it, I injured my toe while training in Muay Thai, and now I’m limping everywhere I go.
But one friend sent me a series of hilarious memes (I laughed periodically throughout the day, thinking of one of them).
I also had a very delicious dinner (food is my love language).
And it should be noted, I still have a loving family, great friends, a roof over my head, all 5 of my senses, and a great head of hair (modest, I know).
So although 95% of my day was awful, there was still a reason to be happy at the end of it.
Track your happy moments
I know what you’re thinking… On those bad days, it can be difficult to notice any happy moments. The bad overpowers the good.
There’s a trick around that.
You need to track your happy moments on your happy days.
Journaling helps with this.
If you write down everything that made you happy throughout your day, on your bad days, you’ll start to notice the good parts more easily.
Think about it.
If you have 4 great days in a row, and you notice how much it meant to you that your friend asked how your day went, when that bad day comes, and your friend still reaches out to you… You’ll feel that happy moment.
The same goes for all other happy moments.
Force yourself to notice them, and this will turn into a highly valuable skill.
Experience the happy moments
This same process becomes even more powerful if you really let yourself feel those happy moments.
Because you notice them more now that you tracked them, you can now pause to really appreciate them.
Your friend reaches out, you take a second to pause and feel that happiness. Beautiful.
The weather is beautiful, which greatly affects your day. So, on the first step outside your place, pause and take a deep breath, embracing what is.
Most of us ignore the happy moments as they’re happening. We are so caught up with the craziness that is life that we forget to experience life altogether.
Try to savour even your first sip of water. It can be incredible.
Pause. Experience. Enjoy.
Closing thoughts
Life is as simple or as complicated as you make it. One of the simplest parts of life is happiness.
There’s always a reason to be happy.
Don’t overcomplicate it.
Find those reasons, track them so it becomes easier to feel them, and then truly let yourself experience those moments.
Don’t get so busy living that you forget to actually experience life.
