What is it about?
Craig Mod writes to his dead childhood friend as he walks a pilgrimage path in Japan. As he journeys through the countries, different interactions and moments make him think of the memories they made.
The book also shares Craig’s photography as he adventures. It adds a nice touch to really bring you into his setting.
My favourite parts
The photography really stood out to me (as someone who enjoys taking pictures). It added another element that helped make me feel like I was there with him.
Throughout the book, Craig shares different interactions. Some with kids, some with elderly people, and a few with owners of Kissas (traditional Japanese coffee shops). The interactions I felt shared some Japanese culture, which was nice.
Who should read it?
Those who want to travel to Japan may particularly enjoy this book. But it is also good for those who want a touching and relaxing read. I found this book soothing to read towards the end of my day.
Additional thoughts
This book was a change of pace from the books I normally read. It’s the kind of book that you can go through quickly and pull out whenever you want to take your mind elsewhere.
I’d love to find other books like this. Please share if you have any recommendations!
