What is it about?

This book goes through 80+ emotions humans have and explains them in clear and concise language. It maps out how to tell the difference between emotions that would often get mixed up and what those emotions exactly mean.

Through the book, Brene explains skills to navigate these emotions to help the reader create more powerful connections.

My favourite parts

There are certain emotions I wanted to get a better understanding of. Some of those include empathy, love, happiness (since I write about it, and anger. Brene’s explanation of these and all emotions I found very useful.

For example, the difference between cognitive empathy (recognizing and understanding one’s emotions) and affective empathy (experience sharing). She explains that affective empathy is a slippery slope towards not being able to offer meaningful support.

Who should read it?

This book would bring value to anyone who wants to raise their EQ. Basically, everyone should be seeking that… Those in partnerships, leaders, entrepreneurs, those climbing the corporate ladder, and those looking to improve their relationships with anyone.

Additional thoughts

I found this book very easy to navigate. I put a bunch of post-its in it, as it is one of those books that you could flip to any page years down the road and still get massive value out of it.
