What is it about?

This is the autobiography of Barry Diller, one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. He started in a mailroom and became an executive at ABC, the CEO of Paramount, and helped launch FOX TV. On top of that, he was involved with companies such as Expedia and Tinder.

His story is one of hard work, determination, betrayal, and success (after some time). Proof that you can start from the bottom of the chain and make your way to the top.

My favourite parts

I love reading about the come-up of impressive founders. Barry Diller had to put time in the mailroom before eventually making his way up to the top. It was nothing sort of impressive.

It’s also interesting to read about those who betrayed him. It shows you have to be careful who you trust and to always protect yourself no matter who you are working with.

Who should read it?

This book would, of course, be great for those working in entertainment, but any founder would find value in this. I also believe those working up the corporate ladder would get some inspiration from this story.

Additional thoughts

It was fun to read about all of the big names he’s worked with. Working in Hollywood led him down numerous interesting paths.

Whether you are looking to learn or just for a fun story, this is a great book.

Be love
