What is it about?
This book takes you through the building of Nvidia from the beginning. Nvidia is the tech giant that produces the hardware used for the majority of the AI in the world. Prior to that, they were known for their GPUs, heavily used in gaming computers.
Since Jensen Huang has been the CEO since the beginning, the book also follows him deeply.
My favourite parts
One of the biggest lessons of the book is how much hard work can pay off. If you work at Nvidia, you are expected to work a minimum of 60 hours a week. Many of the engineers will even work 80+ hours a week regularly. This hard work stems from the top down and is a large reason why they have been so successful. I admire hard work.
I also enjoyed how the book highlighted how well Jensen positioned Nvidia for the AI boom. He really saw it coming, and because he planned for it so well, Nvidia has a massive moat that will continue to last for years.
Who should read it?
Those who are interested in technology and AI will enjoy this book. Although I would say those who want to learn about Jensen Huang would enjoy it even more. It isn’t technically a biography of him, but it may as well be.
Additional thoughts
This book was great. I certainly hope there is a follow-up when Jensen Huang retires (if he ever does). I’m excited to see how far his methods get the company and how long their domination lasts.
