What is it about?
Pablos leads an invention capital firm. So, he comes across many companies that want to use technology to improve the world. Throughout this book, he goes through problems the world is facing and how the companies he has seen can help solve those problems.
My favourite parts
The entire book talks about solutions to world-defining problems. All of the problems you can think of. This makes this book incredibly cheerful. It made me more of a techno-optimist than I already was.
I especially enjoyed the parts talking about nuclear reactors and how ridiculous it was that we stopped innovating on them for years out of unnecessary fear. With the increased demand for electricity, we are finally working towards them again.
Who should read it?
If you want to learn more about technology or need ideas on where to spend your time learning about, this book will be of use. It highlights areas where progress is being made.
It would also be good for those who feel pessimistic about the future. It may be able to change your mind.
Additional thoughts
This book was “unexpectingly” good in the sense that you will not find it on typical lists. I found it through a podcast because technology interests me. If it interests you, too, add it to your list.
