Creativity is becoming more important by the day.

We live in a world where AI is improving rapidly. True creativity is one of the few things that AI cannot replicate.

Creativity is uniquely human.

It’s why someone came up with the phone in your hand, the art on your wall, the pants you wear, and the music you listen to.

High achievers understand its importance, which is why they prioritize creating space to allow their creativity to flourish.

If you, too, have aspirations to innovate, solve problems, and satisfy the creative one inside you, keep reading!

“Creativity is intelligence having fun.” - Albert Einstein

1. Give yourself a break

When you are constantly working, you do not have the time to think.

You need to force yourself to take breaks so you have time for the best ideas and inspiration to come to you.

Some will tell you that your break should consist of walking, while others will say you should sit on a couch in silence.

What you do for your break doesn’t matter, as long as you are giving your mind room to wander.

Experiment, figure out what works for you, and then force yourself to take these breaks regularly.

Schedule them into your calendar if you have to.

2. Work through failure

Creatives fail very often. That is because they are constantly experimenting.

Painters try new techniques and colours.
Musicians try new instruments, sounds, and genres.
Entrepreneurs try new products, marketing tactics, and strategies.

When you try something new, you are a student again. You are bound to fail.

You need to work past this failure. If you let it get to you, you will stop moving.

When you stop moving, you do not become proficient at your craft, your creativity falls, and that, my friends, is when you truly fail.

3. Switch up your environment

When I made a trip to Jamaica, I went to an old slave plantation that had a cave.

We walked through a pitch black cave to a place where we sat peacefully. This was the place where Bob Marley wrote numerous songs.

Many creatives come up with specific ideas because of the environment they are in.

It could be the view they see, the climate they are experiencing, or some sort of energy that fills that space.

Whatever it is, it helps.

Whenever you are feeling stuck, try switching up your environment. You may be pleasantly surprised.

4. Keep track of all your ideas

Coming up with ideas requires a specific muscle which you can work out. That’s why starting an idea journal is one of the best things you can do.

You want to force yourself to regularly come up with ideas so that your brain is always looking for more.

The more you do this, the more your brain will get used to it. Eventually, your creativity will flourish.

On top of that, you will end up with a book of ideas. Often, they mean nothing until many years later when they start to make sense.

So whenever you hit a wall, you will be able to come back and get that creative spark again from some old idea.

5. Study other creative people

You’d be surprised how many ideas you can get from other creative people, and not only those who specifically do what you do.

For example, Steve Jobs was inspired by car designers when creating Apple products. They weren’t making iPods, but they were designing the simple beauty he aspired to.

In the same way, while you may be a painter, you can also get inspired by the creative process of a theoretical physicist or even an entrepreneur.

Find inspiration wherever you can. Creatives in all fields are a great place to start.

Closing thoughts

Creativity is one of the greatest skills you can develop. It is what will help you stay employed in the age of AI, and it is something you can improve with regular practice.

Try the above 5 strategies of letting your creativity flourish and see what works best for you.

If none of them work, please share what works best for you!
